It’s not about weight loss, it’s about freedom!

If you are like most people who come to me to lose weight, your bottom line is getting that excess fat off your body NOW!

How could you do that NOW and How Your Mindset Shapes Your Eating Habits?

Yesterday isn’t soon enough!

The problem with this type of impatience is that it often leads to the very counterproductive thinking that has caused your current habits and your overweight condition in the first place.

How Your Mindset Shapes Your Eating Habits and Life

When your number one priority is dropping the fat off your body, your thinking becomes distorted at the most crucial times such as when you have “accidentally” let yourself become ravenously hungry, or when your neighbor or co-worker decides to surprise you with homemade blueberry pie.

In those moments, your intellect, along with your stated goals, go on pause and the old, default thinking which has pre-programmed you for the same ineffective results you’ve had thus far regarding your weight, takes over.

That robotic, fear-filled voice can take control of you in a heartbeat and the worst part is that this familiar dialogue feels so right and true at the time, though in reality, it is nothing more than enemy thinking.

Its convincing strategy can cause you to doubt everything you know to be true in that moment.

It says things like,

  • “You’ll always be fat. You might as well indulge today.”
  • “You’ll get back on the diet tomorrow.”
  • “You’ve already lost 5 lbs so you can ‘cheat’ a little.”
  • “You look pretty good for your age. So what if you are fat?”
  • “It’s not fair that you don’t get to eat that when everyone else does.”
  • “How many calories/points could it be? I’ll just skip lunch to make up for it.”
  • “I’m just a food addict. I can’t help myself.”

All these lies feel like rational statements in the moment, when you let your reactive emotionally wounded self take center stage.

Then, later when you “come to” and realize what you have done by indulging in foods that you swore you wouldn’t touch anymore, you are filled with deep regret and remorse.

You make promises to yourself that make you cringe even as you are hearing yourself say them because you don’t trust yourself to keep them, anyway.

You know that your wounded reactive self is smiling inside, just waiting for the next opportunity to control you and undo any positive progress you have made or will make towards achieving your weight goals.

Here’s the great news . . .

when you fall into a pothole often enough you get to a point where you see it coming, in advance, and learn ways to avoid it without a big emotional drama. You stop waiting until you are in the pothole because you realize that once you are in the clutches of a pothole, reaching for help is an exercise in futility.

taking control of your life and your eating habits...

Once the toxic food is already on your tongue it’s a little late to try to talk yourself into not eating it.

Depending on the amount of sugar (including all sugar substitutes), fat, sodium, and chemicals in any particular food, it can be as difficult to stop indulging once the food is in your mouth as it is to stop a high-speed train in its tracks.

The time to gain control over your life and your eating habits is not when you are emotionally seduced by food but rather when you can look at the food industry’s deceptive antics objectively and take steps not to succumb to the trap they lay out for all of us, especially those of us who are more susceptible due to a carb-addict or pre-diabetic gene.

These steps may be as simple as

Planning ahead,

Having healthy food with you at all times,

Choosing only healthy foods you enjoy, so you never feel deprived, or as if you are on a diet.

And

Eating enough food (not letting yourself get hungry).

These four keys seem so simple and yet I see over and over that it’s only the people who take these steps who succeed over the long term.

The final success step is:

Using self-hypnosis on a daily basis to program your mind for victory by seeing yourself subconsciously as healthy, fit, happy, worthy, at your ideal weight, in control of your life and your habits.

Don’t mentally replay your failures—instead, visualize your successes, with gratitude.

As a hypnotherapist for over 25 years, I am still fascinated by and in awe of the power of the spoken word and thought.

You may think it’s normal to be insulted when someone criticizes your appearance or your intelligence.

But did you ever wonder why someone could lash out at you with great vengeance and say to you, “You’re a banana!” and no matter how harsh their tone, it would mean nothing to you?

And, yet if that same person said to you, “You are useless and stupid,” you may ruminate over the insult for years to come.

Why?

Because the first statement had nothing to latch onto inside of you.

It didn’t push any of your buttons...

Because you knew in every cell of your body that it’s a lie.

Why can’t we do the same with other degrading remarks?

Because they trigger a place within ourselves that believes them to be true.

When you clear yourself of negativity, negativity will no longer have a grip on your eating habits.

This has everything to do with your food choices

The reason you continuously fall prey to the manipulative tactics of the food industry is because at some level you are still controlled by your negative, unproductive subconscious programming of the past.

You still want to believe all the promises made to you about how “good” too much food and harmful foods will make you feel, how happy you will be when you eat them, and that you have “the right” to eat whatever you want, whenever you want because no one or nothing is going to control you.

Even in the face of the living proof of your body’s overweight and likely, unhealthy condition, you still want to believe that food—excess, processed, toxic food—can somehow fill the void that is part of your human condition.

Like a child who wants to believe in the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus, you want to believe that there is an easy escape from the painful aspects of life.

Of course, this is likely not conscious.

You may not even feel that you have any pain in your life...

If you have turned to food as a mechanism to numb and suppress your emotions and distract yourself from life’s challenges, then you probably actually believe on a conscious level what my clients constantly tell me,

“I’m just a food addict.”

“I just love to eat,”

“Food is my greatest pleasure.”

People declare these statements with great conviction as if these ideas were indisputable facts.

But the truth is that you have been programmed to have an unhealthy and ultimately very unsatisfying relationship with food.

If you stop to think about all the misery your tumultuous relationship with food has caused you and is causing you right now, you will realize that the only rational decision is to forget about dieting and just get a divorce from the food industry.

Are Your Food Choices Draining Your Life Force Energy?

Isn’t it time to cut your losses, let go of the past, and realize that your eating habits and the way you do and obsessing about food daily is robbing you of your life force?

It’s natural to be concerned that there will be a void in your life without your food (sugar and carb) fixation just as you may worry about being alone after a romantic breakup.

Isn’t it time to admit to yourself that nothing could be worse than your current situation and the pain that you are in, mentally, physically, and emotionally?

Though your biggest concern is feeling fat, the bigger self-inflicted wound that you are dealing with is not just that your body is heavy, overweight, and uncomfortable but that on a daily basis...

you are dealing with toxic self-talk, poor self-image, and low self-esteem due to the way you relate to food.

Regardless of your success in other areas of your life, this issue of having an unhealthy relationship with food is literally draining you of your precious life-force energy.

It’s time to transform your eating habits and climb out of that pothole once and for all.

When the old voice wants to tell you that,

“You deserve to eat that,”

speak up with your Wise, Inner Knowing and say,

“I deserve to be happy. I eat only when I am physically hungry. I prefer real, whole, clean, unprocessed food from the Earth. My body is not a trashcan. This is not about weight loss, it’s about freedom.”

With conviction affirm to yourself,

  • “I am in control of my life and my eating habits"
  • My emotions move through me, like the weather, but they don’t control my choices"
  • I am happy, healthy, strong, and successful!”

This is the truth about you and this is the future that you are now saying “Yes” to stepping into!

You can do it!

  • Rena, Thank you so much. This is perfect and Yes i agree with you it has really hit a cord in me.

I would like to ask you if you could do a few webinars – a short online course (live) to teach this to us and where we have the opportunity to ask you questions. I feel there is so much we can learn from you and it will be easier (interactive) then just reading the books.

    Please and thank you

    • Thank you, Seifoonnisa. I like your webinar idea and I am considering it. In the meantime, keep practicing self hypnosis with my hypnosis cds and as you do, the new way of thinking will become second nature.
